What does a Pharmacy Technician do?

Pharmacy technician work under the administration of a pharmacist. They organize and supply medicine which includes weighing out required requirements, calculating tablets, measuring liquids and selecting correct items to make up medicines.

They also prepare tags with descriptions of medicines and instructions for their use, keep records, check stock levels and order stock; most of this will be computerised.

Pharmacy technician working in hospitals are also responsible for making sure all sections have sufficient stocks of medicines. Senior technicians may specialize in specific areas, such as radio-pharmacy or ward pharmacy.
